Description
This is an original, hand made shoe shine box made by an inmate, William Burlinghhame, at the Rhode Island State Prison in February, 1883. Paper identification is on the bottom of the unit. There is a crack in the wood at the back of the box as shown in the picture; the fabric covering is well worn, as shown. Taking into account that the unit is 133 years old, pretty good overall condition. There has not been any refinishing.Dimensions as follows:
Lid - width 16 3/8", depth 15 1/2", height with legs 21" (legs are 5 5/8" long)
Box - width 14 3/8", depth 3 1/2", height with legs 18"
I have described the item as best I can. Due to varying lighting and camera used, the colors may not be exactly as pictured. If you need additional information, please ask before bidding.
